Roy Hodgson - New England Manager thoughts?

Postby nS on Wed May 02, 2012 3:16 pm

My opinion is that its probably a good appointment. Roy Hodgson has international experience, is english, will know the players from playing against them in the PL. He also has a knack of taking a bunch of rubbish players and getting something out of them Fulham/WBA. I don't think he was ever wanted at liverpool (fans/players) and going on kennys run of form doesnt seem like he did all that bad of a job with the players he had at hand.

While redknapp was seen as the obvious choice to many and had alot of support from players his greatest talent has always been in wheeling and dealing in the transfer market. No doubt he would of been able to rally the players but his tactical nouse isn't all that great as we've seen over the last little while in the PL including his comment about the "4-4-2" formation and how he didn't like it only for him to then use it in a game.

I personally hope the nation gets behind him before the euros although no doubt everyone will condemn him the minute something goes wrong.

Dont think it was a good appointment, we all get too uppity about how our manager should be english, makes no difference, in fact i'd take any decent foreign manager over Hodgson anyday. He got his job at liverpool through the media singing his praises through the fucking roof, flopped, nobody said anything, and left the team a wee bit fucked.

With the team england have for euro 2012 my hopes are so low I'd just say let Beckham be the bloody manager, im supporting holland.

This^ - They have taken the safe and easy option which disapoints me. May I add he is also probably the cheaper options by a fair few millions to get out of his club contract.

I think the problem is now if he fails it will be "well would this have happened if Harry was in charge" I think we should have just gone with Harry and then if he fails the whole of the country would be like ... oh okay, well that wasnt supposed to happen lol

But yeah whatever, we are an awful footballing nation when it comes to big competitions so I will expect the same as I expected every other time which is not a lot!
You will totes find me in the kitchen at partiesssssssss!!! xD

I'm sure that as soon as he loses his first match he will be torn limb from limb regardless of him being a good choice or not just like the rest of them

He is a bit too dopey for my liking. I don't think he represents our great british country very well!

I think he will do well, he has everything to prove after the Liverpool flop. Good luck to him!

I think that getting Gary Neville was a good call, not the most experience coach but you can't fault he has 'been there and done that'. It will be interesting tomorrow to see the team he has chosen.

I think its one of the better decisions by the FA. The guy is outspoken has never been one for the spotlight like alot of the prima donna players and in several interviews I've seen how people have said he's a nightmare to train with because he always wants to win. This is a good article about Nev and his outlook on previous england set ups.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foot ... 46738.html

Hopefully he will instill alot of the mentalitly that got him to the peak of his career. He always knew he wasn't as naturally as gifted as other players of his generation (beckham, scholes, butt) and so it was all about hard work for him.

I guess everyone has their opinions, i've always felt like although he has never been a world class player his attitude and knowledge towards the game kept him playing for Manchester united for 20 years!

I just hope he doesn't blow the chance to work with the England team as some of them are his mates.
